It's long, sped up 240%, but shows the hike down from the top of Carnarvon Lake (Kananaskis).
Sit back, enjoy, and feel free to comment, like, and share!!

oh... and my apologies for the quality - the lens of the GoPro has a scratch on it which cannot be repaired without a whole new lens unit.

Attempt at Perseids again.. Star Trails instead!

Even with a fairly wide angle 20mm lens, it's hard to capture all the meteors that shoot across the sky. This composite image, made of 340 individual shots of the north sky (albeit perhaps a bit too north, and not enough east) only capture a few faint meteors. I saw more with my naked eyes, but they were out of frame, oh well!

My goal here was to capture that cragly tree in the bottom of the image, but closer and at ground level. Problem: flooding in 2013 of the Old Man river in Lethbridge changed things down there, and the path that used to go on the west of that tree, is now on the east. I didn't feel like setting up in 3' tall brush...

Half way through the lapse, I heard something a little ways behind me. I turned around and shone my flashlight up on the coulee and saw three sets of green eyes looking back at me... hmm. I stood up, and shone the light around some more - they moved. Alas, only deer. :-)

So - this is Lethbridge's High Level Bridge, showered with stars.

Perseid Meteor and Northern Lights in Lethbridge

So I'm still slowly working on my summer timelapse project... here's a frame from the latest one from a few nights ago. I was hoping to capture more meteors, but this was the only one in view (I did see 3-4 more with my eyes). But I couldn't see the northern lights well with my eyes - they just looked like clouds on the horizon. I knew the northern lights could be seen from Lethbridge, but this is my first time seeing them, and first time capturing them on camera.

The timelapse looks much cooler than the single photo.

At the end of the lapse, after my camera finished clicking, I could hear something in the grass about 8 feet away from me... I looked around and saw a creature - my first thoughts were that it was either a skunk or a porcupine... more light and adjusted eyes in fact revealed the prickly nature of the beast, and my iPhone flashlight slowly scared it away.  The timelapse photos revealed that it visited me another time in the night, but I didn't hear it (maybe not close enough!)

Seeing a meteor fall (shooting star) over Lethbridge is cool enough - but with Northern Lights too? Cool!

So it was my daughter's birthday yesterday, and as per tradition, we went to the local Corn Maze/petting zoo farm. Here are a few photos of the animals there...
We were also there to capture an amazing sunset!! Check out the photos I added to my photo store to see them.

More Star Photos...

I love capturing photos of the night sky. This time I didn't have my nice Nikon with me - only a smaller Sony NEX-F3 APS-C family camera. (hey... we were on vacation - no need for extra bulk, and I knew this lens offered RAW and manual controls.)

So - the first image is looking down Mara Lake (Sicamous, BC). There was a nice full moon that had just risen to the East (left side) - so there is a nice reflected sunlight filling the scene, but the sky was barely dark enough to show some stars.

The second two are from the Silverwood Campground, near Coeur d'Alène Idaho. Nothing too special, other than the kit lens on this older Sony that I got for a killer clearance price works pretty good!

18-55 3.5 kit lens. Some processing in Lightroom.
